COVID-19 Aftercare Service at Dorking Hospital

A new service for people who have had COVID-19 and after 6 weeks are still experiencing symptoms.

If you are recovering from a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 and you did not receive hospital treatment, you can ask your GP to refer you to our new aftercare service at Dorking Hospital.

The new service, which follows British Thoracic Society guidelines, aims to bring together a range of specialisms to provide the best possible care including outpatient services, mental health services, respiratory nursing and respiratory physiotherapy.

If you are referred, you will be invited for a face to face appointment with our nursing team to complete observations and questionnaires. A follow-up appointment will be made with a respiratory specialist and other referrals will be made as appropriate.

Please speak to your GP or call DHC Outpatients on 01306 735459 for further details.

Further Information

NHS England has announced that it will provide specialist clinics to help people suffering from the long term effects of coronavirus. Residents of Surrey now have access to a new COVID-19 Aftercare Clinic at DHC Outpatients, Dorking Hospital.

It is now known that COVID-19 is associated with a complex range of signs and symptoms that can continue for more than 12 weeks. It is thought to affect more than 60,000 people in the UK. The new clinic at Dorking Hospital will bring together a multi-disciplinary team of specialists and rehab experts to help patients with ongoing health issues. GPs in Surrey can refer patients straight into the clinic where they will undergo a triage assessment before onward referrals to the most appropriate specialists.

“Our understanding of the effects that develop during or after an infection with COVID-19 is improving all the time. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the Royal College of General Practitioners have reported they will be using the term ‘post-COVID-19 syndrome’ to describe a wide range of symptoms in addition to breathlessness, generalised pain, fatigue and persistent fever. Our new COVID-19 Aftercare Clinic has been set up to ensure that patients have access to the broadest range of specialist care possible to help them overcome the problems they face.
If anyone is concerned about symptoms from suspected or confirmed COVID-19, they should talk to their GP about whether they would benefit from a referral.”
