Our ultrasound services are available at various locations which offers a wide choice for patients.
Direct referral for professionals
If you are a GP or health professional, you can refer your patients directly for an ultrasound scan using our electronic referral form. If you would like a copy of any of our referral forms, please contact us on appointments.dhc@nhs.net
What is an ultrasound scan?
An ultrasound scan uses high frequency sound waves to create an image. High frequency sound waves cannot be heard by the human ear. A transducer (probe) acts as a transmitter and directs the sound waves into the body. The reflected sound waves are received by the probe and converted into an image displayed on the ultrasound machine monitor.
Ultrasound scans are performed by our sonographers using top of the range portable machines which are easily transportable between locations.
You may be asked to follow certain preparation instructions including starving for 6 hours or drinking and arriving with a full bladder. This helps us to see more clearly and improves the quality of the images produced. These instructions will be included with your appointment letter.
